Douglas Albert Munro

Douglas Albert Munro is the only US Coast Guard to receive the Medal of Honor. Whilst providing cover for ground troops with his boat, Munro was fatally wounded. The last words he said were, “did they get off?” referring to the soldiers he'd saved. He was just 22 years old.


2. After Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh shot himself in the chest with a 7mm revolver, he walked home and saw doctors but there was no surgeon to remove the bullet. The doctors left him alone smoking his pipe in his room. He died at 37 of infection two days later and his last words were “The sadness will last forever.”
