Grapple Apples Tasted Like Grapes

Grapple Apples Tasted Like Grapes

Grapple was a brand of Fuji and Gala apples soaked in concentrated methyl anthranilate diluted with water, making their flesh taste like Concord grapes. The external flavoring added no sugar or calories and did not turn the apples into true apple-grape hybrids. The brand began selling the fruit in 2004 and introduced a more tart version in 2016. By 2024, its parent company had discontinued both varieties because of low sales, declining interest, and poor publicity.
