Mary Poppins Cast Stayed Silent

While filming Mary Poppins (1964), American actor Dick Van Dyke believed his Cockney accent sounded convincing because no one in the English cast corrected him. He later said that not even Julie Andrews told him he needed to improve it. More than 50 years later, Van Dyke jokingly apologized for inflicting what he called "the most atrocious Cockney accent in the history of cinema."
