Jaws Malfunction Created Shark's-Eye View

While filming Jaws (1975), director Steven Spielberg planned to use a giant mechanical shark to make the attacks look realistic. However, the shark constantly malfunctioned in the ocean, delaying production and driving up the budget. Spielberg responded by filming several scenes from the shark's underwater point of view, a cheaper solution that made the unseen creature even more suspenseful.
