Kathryn Grayson Used Brass-Lined Gloves

While filming the Madama Butterfly sequence in The Toast of New Orleans (1950), American actress Kathryn Grayson said co-star Mario Lanza repeatedly tried to French-kiss her after eating garlic. She asked costume designer Helen Rose for help, and Rose sewed pieces of brass into her gloves. Whenever Lanza tried again, Grayson struck him with the weighted glove.
