Cast Away Replaced Island Audio

The crashing waves and constant wind on the uninhabited island used for Cast Away (2000) made usable location audio nearly impossible, so none of the sound heard during the island scenes was recorded there. The sound team recreated every grunt, breath, footstep, creak, wave, and spoken line in post-production. Tom Hanks re-recorded his monologues in a studio, and engineers played them outdoors at Skywalker Ranch to reproduce the island's distance and echo.
