North Pole Expedition Included Armstrong

In 1985, a professional expedition leader named Mike Dunn organized a private North Pole journey for men he called the "greatest explorers." The group included American astronaut Neil Armstrong, New Zealand mountaineers Sir Edmund and Peter Hillary, American adventurer Steve Fossett, and Canadian mountaineer Patrick Morrow. Armstrong said he accepted because he had previously seen the North Pole only from space and wanted to experience it from the ground. They reached the Pole on April 6, 1985, and Armstrong kept the trip out of the media.
