Omaha Used Twenty-Six Assault Waves

D-Day did not unfold as one enormous rush onto the Normandy coast. At Omaha Beach alone, planners scheduled 26 assault waves beginning at 6:30 a.m., allowing successive groups of troops, vehicles, and equipment to land in sequence. The other beaches followed their own timetables, while Allied airborne operations had begun several hours earlier.
