Britain Supplied Most D-Day Warships

Britain supplied most of the naval and air power used during D-Day. Of the 1,213 warships involved, 892 were British and 200 were American, while Britain provided 3,261 of the 4,126 landing craft compared with 805 from the United States. British aircraft also made up about two-thirds of the 12,000 planes supporting the invasion, and 31 percent of the supplies used by American forces came directly from Britain. These contributions challenge the popular image of D-Day as a predominantly American operation.
