About 1 in every 1,000 girls is born with trisomy X, which gives her an extra X chromosome, yet fewer than 10% of girls and women with the condition receive a diagnosis. It can cause learning disabilities, increased height, wide-spaced eyes, incurved little fingers, and early menopause, although some people show no symptoms. Most live normal lives, but their socioeconomic status averages lower than that of the general population.
