Pheidippides Ran Hundreds Of Kilometers

In 490 BCE, the Athenian runner Pheidippides reportedly ran roughly 240 kilometers from Athens to Sparta in about two days to request military help against the Persians, then made the journey back. A much later legend added that after the Battle of Marathon he ran another roughly 40 kilometers from Marathon to Athens, announced the Greek victory, and immediately died.
