The Doodler was an unidentified serial killer in San Francisco who killed at least five men between January 1974 and September 1975. He reportedly met men at gay bars and nightclubs, sketched them, then lured them to beaches or secluded areas and stabbed them. Three victims survived, but they refused to testify because they feared being publicly outed as gay. Police had a suspect, but without testimony from the survivors, prosecutors could not bring the case to trial.
