British astrophysicist Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell discovered the first pulsars in 1967 while she was still a graduate student. She later credited the discovery in part to impostor syndrome and a fear of being thrown out of college, saying, "I'm a bit of a fighter, so I decided until they threw me out I would work my very hardest."
