Erasmus Darwin Rhymed Evolution First

English physician and writer Erasmus Darwin proposed his own theory of evolution in a poem nearly 70 years before his grandson, English naturalist Charles Darwin, published his famous work. Erasmus laid out the idea in "The Temple of Nature," using verse instead of a scientific treatise.
