Because shows like "Criminal Minds" made FBI profiling look almost supernatural, the FBI’s Special Agent FAQ directly warns that no FBI job is actually called “profiler.” The agency says Supervisory Special Agents at the National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime in Quantico, Virginia, handle the work commonly linked to profiling. It also makes clear that agents do not get “vibes” or “psychic flashes” at fresh crime scenes and instead rely on investigation, research, reasoning, criminal behavior knowledge, facts, and statistical probabilities.
