BBC Lost Its Television History

Until 1978, the BBC had no formal archival policy, and many older broadcasts were aired live, wiped, or simply never preserved. That left major gaps in British TV history, including the lost 1963 play "Madhouse on Castle Street" with a then-unknown Bob Dylan, much of the original moon landing coverage, and a lot of earlier "Doctor Who" episodes.
