Abell 3266’s Three-Million-Light-Year Fireball

Abell 3266’s Three-Million-Light-Year Fireball

There is a galaxy-eating fireball about 3 million light-years across, with gas heated to tens of millions of degrees, hotter than the Sun’s core. Astronomers spotted it ripping through the Abell 3266 galaxy cluster at about 750 km/s using ESA’s XMM-Newton X-ray telescope, and they estimated the cluster is stripping material from it at roughly a sun's mass per hour.
