On Friday, April 13, 2029, the asteroid 99942 Apophis will pass Earth closer than many geosynchronous satellites, skimming by at about 31,600 to 32,000 km above Earth’s surface. It will not hit the atmosphere, and after years of tracking, NASA says there is no risk of an Earth impact for at least 100 years, including the old 2036 concern.
