Ariel’s Red Hair Beat Blonde

Disney executives wanted Ariel in "The Little Mermaid" to have blonde hair, but the filmmakers gave her red hair instead. The color helped her stand out against her green tail and made her look different from the blonde mermaid in the recently released film "Splash." The animators also found red easier to darken underwater than yellow.
