DC Comics tried to stop Valencia CF from using a bat logo, even though Valencia had used a bat on its crest since 1919, decades before Batman debuted in 1939. In 2014 Valencia said DC filed an objection during an EU trademark registration process for a redesigned bat used for clothing, though there was no lawsuit. DC later filed another EU trademark complaint tied to Valencia’s centenary logo, but those challenges were not successful, and Valencia kept its bat identity intact.
