Wolverine Debuted in Hulk

Wolverine made his first appearance in The Incredible Hulk #180 and #181 in 1974, where Marvel introduced him as a Canadian government super-agent sent into battle against the Hulk. At that stage, the character had not yet developed the deeper mutant mythology that later defined him. As Wolverine grew more popular, Marvel expanded his backstory, made him a mutant, and pulled him into the X-Men.
