Batman Animated Series Painted on Black

On Batman: The Animated Series, the production issued a standing order that background artists paint using light colors on black paper. The show did it the opposite way from the usual animation workflow, which typically starts with dark colors on white paper. That decision helped the series maintain its signature dark, noir look across scenes and episodes.
