SNL Burt Reynolds Impersonation Excuse

Saturday Night Live created the “Celebrity Jeopardy!” sketch solely so that comedian Norm Macdonald could do his Burt Reynolds impression. The idea came first as a showcase for that impersonation, not as a long-term recurring format. Once the sketch hit, the fake game-show structure gave Macdonald a consistent place to play Reynolds while the rest of the cast rotated through celebrity caricatures.
