Bonn-Oberkassel Puppy Nursed By Humans

A 14,000-year-old puppy discovered at the Bonn-Oberkassel burial site in Germany survived canine distemper, an illness that usually kills infected dogs within a few weeks. Researchers studying its teeth concluded the puppy must have been cared for by humans for several weeks while it was sick, since it would not have survived the disease on its own. The discovery suggests that Stone Age humans nursed the puppy through the illness and later buried it alongside them when it died.
