John F. Kennedy Jr Crash

The plane crash that killed John F. Kennedy Jr., his wife Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, and her sister Lauren Bessette occurred on July 16, 1999, near Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. Investigators concluded the crash was caused by spatial disorientation after Kennedy lost control of the aircraft while flying over dark water in hazy night conditions. Kennedy was not certified to fly solely by instruments, yet he continued the flight in deteriorating visibility and did not request a weather briefing or file a flight plan before departure. The plane crashed into the Atlantic Ocean, killing all three passengers instantly.
