Yuri Gagarin’s Phone Call Landing

When Yuri Gagarin, the first person in space, landed back on Earth on April 12, 1961, he came down near Saratov in Russia after ejecting from Vostok 1 and parachuting to the ground. According to Gagarin’s own recollection, he told the local farmer and her daughter not to be afraid because he was a Soviet citizen who had descended from space and needed to find a telephone to call Moscow to let them know he was back on earth.
