In the 1940s, actress Lena Horne faced hostility after moving into a predominantly white Hollywood neighborhood where some residents tried to force her out because she was Black. During the dispute, actor Humphrey Bogart stepped in and publicly supported her right to live there. Bogart told Horne that if anyone bothered her, she should let him know.
