For years, a woman named Lydia Abate has practiced what she calls "funeral tracking." She searches obituaries to identify recently deceased individuals and then contacts the families to offer a free estate clean-out service. In exchange, Abate keeps the vintage clothing that belonged to the deceased. By collecting garments this way, she has built her wardrobe entirely from estate cleanouts and says she has not bought new clothes in years.
