In 1885 in Richmond, Indiana, Wilbur Wright, the older of the Wright Brothers, lost his front teeth at age 18 after a violent fight with another young man. The injury derailed Wilbur’s earlier plans for college and changed the direction of his life before he later helped pioneer powered flight with Orville Wright. The attacker, Oliver Cook Haugh, would follow a far darker path. Years later, Haugh became a notorious Midwest serial killer, eventually convicted of multiple murders before his execution in Ohio in 1907.
