Mary Bell Child Killer Freed

In 1968, Mary Bell, an 11-year-old girl from Newcastle upon Tyne, England, murdered two young boys, Martin Brown (4) and Brian Howe (3). The crimes shocked Britain and led authorities to charge the child with murder, making her one of the youngest serial killer cases in modern history. A court convicted Bell later that year and sent her to a juvenile detention facility, where she spent her teenage years in custody. She briefly escaped during her confinement, but authorities quickly recaptured her. In 1980, officials released Bell at age 23, and the High Court later granted her lifelong anonymity, leaving her current whereabouts unknown.
