Lisbon Ripper Reality Show Tip

In 2011, the Portuguese reality show Secret Story, a program similar to Big Brother where contestants enter with hidden personal secrets, unexpectedly became linked to a murder investigation. One applicant revealed his secret during the casting process: he believed his father was the Lisbon Ripper, an unidentified serial killer responsible for murdering several sex workers in Lisbon, Portugal, between 1992 and 1993. The claim alarmed producers and eventually reached authorities. Portuguese police investigated the allegation and arrested the man’s father as a suspect in the historic case. Although the arrest briefly revived the investigation, authorities ultimately lacked sufficient evidence to secure a conviction.
