Boone Helm Jumped At Hanging

Boone Helm, an American frontiersman and serial killer, committed multiple murders across the American West during the 1850s and 1860s. Helm gained notoriety not only for killing travelers but also for cannibalism, which he reportedly resorted to while fleeing through the wilderness. Authorities eventually captured him in Montana Territory after linking him to several killings. A vigilante court sentenced Helm to death, and he was hanged in Virginia City, Montana, in 1864. Just before the execution, the serial killer reportedly shouted, “Hurrah for Jeff Davis! Let ’er rip!” and jumped from the hangman’s box before the executioner could kick it away.
