Hans Schmidt Killer Priest Scandal

Hans Schmidt, a Catholic priest working in New York City, became one of the most disturbing murderers in early 20th-century America. In 1913, he murdered his pregnant mistress Anna Aumuller, a housekeeper he had secretly married, then dismembered her body and reportedly drank some of her blood before disposing of the remains in the Hudson River. Investigators soon arrested Schmidt, uncovering a shocking double life that also included running a counterfeiting operation with his male lover, New York dentist Ernest Muret. A court convicted Schmidt of the murder after a highly publicized trial. In 1916, authorities executed him by electric chair.
