In 1975, John Butkovich, a teenage employee of contractor John Wayne Gacy, suddenly vanished in Chicago, Illinois, after confronting his boss about unpaid wages. Butkovich’s parents immediately suspected something was wrong and repeatedly contacted local police to push for a deeper investigation. Over the following months, they called authorities more than 100 times, urging officers to look closely at Gacy. Police initially treated the case as a simple missing person situation and did not pursue Gacy aggressively. Years later, investigators exposed Gacy as a serial killer responsible for the murders of at least 33 young men and boys, including Butkovich.
