Most People Quit New Music

Streaming data suggests that many listeners stop actively seeking out new music in their early 30s. A 2015 study of Spotify users’ listening habits found that people, on average, stop listening to new music at age 33, while a 2018 report by Deezer put that “musical paralysis” point at around age 30. Together, the two studies suggest that by their early 30s most people stick more to familiar favorites than to fresh releases.
