Lou Reed’s Perfect Day Explained

Lou Reed released the song "Perfect Day" in 1972 on his album Transformer, and fans and critics often assumed it was a coded ode to heroin. Reed repeatedly rejected that interpretation, saying it was literally about spending a perfect day drinking sangria in the park and then going home with someone you love. He summed it up plainly in one interview: “A perfect day. Real simple. I meant just what I said.”
