Rachael Gunn Becomes Spraygun Onstage

In December 2024 in Sydney, Australian Olympic breakdancer Rachael Gunn had her lawyers send letters to comedian Steph Broadbridge’s planned show Raygun: The Musical, arguing that Gunn’s stage name and her “kangaroo” dance move were protected intellectual property. Broadbridge cancelled the show just days before opening night, then rewrote it as Breaking: The Musical, starring a 36-year-old Olympic breaker named Sprachel Gunn, a university lecturer whose stage name is “Spraygun.” The legal fight ended up boosting interest, and the reworked musical went on to sold-out runs at major comedy festivals and a regional tour.
