William Shatner directed Star Trek V: The Final Frontier because his old contract from the original Star Trek series guaranteed that whatever Leonard Nimoy received, he would get as well. Shatner invoked that clause after Nimoy directed Star Trek IV, demanding permission to direct a film as well. The studio honored the agreement.
