A 2024 review in Molecular Psychiatry reports that adult human brains, including those from people aged roughly 20 to their late 70s, still contain neural progenitor cells that generate new neurons throughout life. This evidence overturns the old belief that neuron production stops after childhood and shows that regions like the hippocampus keep integrating immature neurons as we age.
