Humans are a tropical species whose bodies evolved for hot, humid conditions in Africa, with our lineage traceable back about 300,000 years to fossils in Morocco. Because our evolution favored warm environments, most of us still lack strong physiological adaptations to the cold, so in strict biological terms our bodies are not supposed to be able to survive freezing climates on their own.
