Robert Yummy Sandifer Gang Execution

Robert Yummy Sandifer Gang Execution

In early 1990s Chicago, 11-year-old Robert "Yummy" Sandifer grew up in an abusive, neglectful environment and drifted into the Black Disciples street gang, racking up 23 felonies and 5 misdemeanors before he reached his teens. On August 28, 1994, he opened fire in a South Side neighborhood, allegedly trying to shoot rival gang members but instead killing 14-year-old Shavon Dean and wounding another teen.

As national media seized on his nickname and baby-faced mugshot, police launched a citywide manhunt, while his own gang worried he might turn informant. A few days later, fellow Black Disciples lured Yummy to an underpass and shot him in the back of the head, making the 11-year-old both a killer and a victim of gang violence.
