Mini Brain Organoids Grow Eyes

In 2021, a team of scientists at University Hospital Düsseldorf in Germany grew human stem cells into brain organoids that unexpectedly sprouted eye-like structures. These mini brains developed paired optic cups with light-sensitive retinal tissue, complete with lenses and corneal-like tissue that could respond to light signals.
