When you shake a container of mixed nuts, the largest pieces, like Brazil nuts, mysteriously rise to the top instead of sinking. Physicists call this counterintuitive behavior the "Brazil nut effect," a type of granular convection in which vibration causes smaller nuts to filter downward through gaps. As the container keeps moving, those small pieces effectively push the big ones upward, so the heaviest nuts float at the surface, where logic says they should never be.
