US Once Armed Viet Minh

During World War II, the United States provided training and equipment to the Viet Minh, a Vietnamese resistance group fighting Japanese occupation. This support helped arm and organize the Viet Minh as they built up their military strength. After the war, the Viet Minh became the foundation of both the North Vietnamese Army and the Viet Cong. In the Vietnam War, the United States ended up fighting forces that grew out of the very movement it had once helped support.
