Apelles Favored by Alexander

Ancient Greek painter Apelles was regarded in antiquity as the greatest painter of the Greek world, a reputation recorded by writers like Pliny the Elder. Alexander the Great admired him so much that, according to Pliny, he even entrusted one of his concubines to Apelles as a model. Despite his fame, none of Apelles’s original works survived, leaving only written praise to testify to his skill.
