People can't name their children whatever they want in Iceland. The country uses a Personal Names Register, and a naming committee checks new submissions for compliance with Icelandic language rules and alphabet. Parents can apply for an unlisted name, but the committee rejects ones that break grammar or could cause embarrassment.
