The Immovable Jerusalem Ladder

The Immovable Jerusalem Ladder

People aren't allowed to move the ladder at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. Since 1757, it has sat beneath a window, and any change requires agreement from all six church clerics who share the site. When a chair was once shifted 20 cm, a fistfight broke out between factions. The scuffle reinforced the fragile status quo, so no one dares alter the ladder today.
