United Airlines Revives 9/11 Flight Numbers

In May 2011, United Airlines suffered a computer scheduling glitch that accidentally reinstated flight numbers 93 and 175, both of which had been retired after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The numbers briefly reappeared in the airline's booking system, alarming customers who recognized them as the hijacked flights that struck the Twin Towers and were intended for Washington, D.C. United corrected the error and permanently removed the flight numbers after the mistake was reported.
