Brain's Default Mode Network Explained

Neuroscientists have identified a "default mode network" (DMN) in the human brain that becomes most active when a person is not focused on external tasks. The DMN is linked to daydreaming, memory recall, and mind-wandering, essentially generating an "internal narrative" that helps construct a sense of self. Disruptions in this network have been associated with conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, depression, and autism spectrum disorders.
