Identity Theft: Keirans and Woods

In 1988, Matthew David Keirans, then a 22-year-old from Minnesota, met William Woods, a traveling cook from Iowa, and went on to steal Woods's identity for more than 30 years. When Woods later tried to reclaim his own identity, Keirans thwarted his efforts, which led to Woods being wrongfully arrested and institutionalized. Wood spent 428 days in jail and 147 days in a psychiatric hospital before finally being exonerated.
